William M. Hyatt, Sculptor

The Artist, William Hyatt was born and raised in Southern California. He remembers being interested in art from a very young age. The money he earned as a youngster was often spent on art supplies. After studying photography and art in High School as well as Citrus College, William spent some time at Art Center, School of Design in Pasadena.

During the years while his family was growing, William went to work as a welder. He started out working at customizing cars and found in doing this he could use his artistic abilities to design new solutions to common problems. In doing so he became aware of just what he was able to do with a torch and some imagination.

Then in 1994, after a challenge from his brother, William began experimenting with various techniques to develop his own unique style of sculpting. This consisted of using raw materials, hand torch cut and layered to give a 3-D effect to his sculptures. Hyatt uses the natural aging process of his materials as well as the use of heat exchange to give his work a touch of reality without using paint or other means of coloration.

William has continued to expand his mediums to include clay and bronze sculpting, as well as painting. He is also designing his own signature water features. These consist of waterfalls both indoor and outdoor using his artistic talents to incorporate metal, wood, glass and stone to make each one a beautiful unique piece of art.

William Hyatt is well known and respected in the local art community. He donates his time and his artwork to benefit children's art programs. He truly believes that art in any form, is an expression of one's inner self and without it we lack individuality and the outlet necessary to have a full and balanced life.
